Cort B. Chappell is a life long resident of the Town of Portsmouth. As a general partner in the firm of Chappell & Chappell, he has served the needs of the Rhode Island community in the general practice of law for over 25 years. He concentrates in the area of litigation including domestic relations, criminal, landlord / tenant, and contract disputes. Chappell & Chappell also focuses on Wills, Trusts, and general estate planning.
Cort is an honors graduate of Syracuse University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1982. He received his Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School in 1985. He is a member of numerous associations including the Rhode Island and Newport Bar Associations; Family Court Bench Bar Committee; and the Rhode Island Prosecutor's Association. Although Cort does criminal defense work throughout the State, he has served the Town of Portsmouth as prosecutor from 2008 to the present. He has also been appointed as special prosecutor for the Towns of Middletown and Tiverton. In Newport County he often serves as a Guardian ad Litem for minor children and as a Master to liquidate assets by the appointment of the Rhode Island Family Court.
